KAILYN RHONE

Multimedia Journalist

Kailyn Rhone is a business reporting fellow at The New York Times in New York. She was previously a finance reporting fellow at The Wall Street Journal, covering personal finance and economics. She has a master's degree in business and economic reporting from New York University. Her work has also been published in Reuters, Teen Vogue, Tampa Bay Times and more.

She is from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and has a passion for personal finance storytelling. She graduated summa cum laude from Florida A&M University, a historically Black university, in 2022 with a bachelor's in public relations.

Rhone is a David Carr reporting fellow working with the business team. She reports on how people are finding income, paying off debt, or cutting costs because of economic pressures and affordability concerns. Her work has been featured on The Morning Newsletter and the front page of the Times newspaper. She is currently based in New York.

She previously was a finance reporting fellow at The Wall Street Journal, working with the economics team. She reported on the unusual ways people are getting around the economy, such as people turning to live in their vans full-time due to the housing market. Her work was featured on podcasts and the front page of the Journal.  

Rhone interned for Reuters, The Tampa Bay Times, and The Texas Tribune and was an emerging reporting fellow for ProPublica. She also has been published in Teen Vogue and The Tallahassee Democrat
 
She also took MBA courses at NYU in accounting, corporate finance, and economics to learn more about the world of business journalism and further enhance her multimedia skills (videography and social media marketing). She aspires to use her master's degree to report on stories and issues that are impactful to minorities from a business lens.
